Family Law & Litigation
Dorothy Kosinska
Dorothy has been practising exclusively in family law for over a decade. She started her articles at a boutique law firm in Toronto, specializing in family law. She continued her practice exclusively in family law with a litigation focused family law firm in Burlington, where she gained extensive experience appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court.
She obtained her Collaborative practice certification in 2020 and is an advocate for finding non-destructive resolutions for separating families. Her broad experience, both inside the court process and in alternative dispute resolution processes gives her the essential background to effectively guide her clients through the most appropriate streams to help bring about the best resolution, tailored to their unique circumstances.
Dorothy is a member of Office of the Children’s Lawyer legal panel, representing children to ensure that they are given a voice and empowered during a difficult time in their lives. Through this work she is trained to understand the needs of children going through separation and is able to guide parents to be child-focused.
She is involved in the Halton community through the Halton County Law Association mentorship program, where she provides mentorship and guidance to family lawyers seeking support, and she also sits on the Halton County Law Association board.
Dorothy is a co-author for two of Thomson Reuters, Carswell’s loose-leaf publications: “Domestic Contracts” and “Parenting Law and Practice in Canada.” These are resources used by lawyers throughout Canada for legal research and precedents.
Prior to practicing law, Dorothy obtained an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Toronto, graduating with distinction. While at law school, Dorothy worked as an editor in Carswell Thomson Reuters’ legal division. She contributed both research and writing to Carswell family law publications.
